Since Hangouts have become quite popular now, I figured it is a good time to know more about your privacy when it comes to chatting there. First and foremost, everyone needs to know how to delete and disable their chat histories, especially if they use Hangouts on shared computers. To continue, make sure you are connected to your Google account. Also note that the exact steps may vary depending on your platform of choice.
To turn the history feature off, open the platform, go to a Hangout, open the Settings and choose to turn the history off (or a similar option if present).
If you are looking to actually delete past conversations, you will need to log in your Gmail account instead. Once you do that, search for a keyword to find the conversation or go to More > Chats, find a conversation and you should see a button that reads “Delete Hangout history”.
Confirm the warning that the messages will be deleted permanently and repeat the process for as many Hangouts as you want.
